Based on the number of complaints coming into City Hall, it appears to be time for a refresher course on bicycle etiquette and rules of riding.

City's bicyclists must follow the rules, too
First off, I appreciate the people who bicycle. I personally do not ride as much as I should or would like, but I do ride to work on occasion during the summer. With this in mind, I read Dr. Savarise’s article last week and was very glad that he reinforced that bike riders need to follow the appropriate rules. If they are riding, they need to follow the same rules as cars, except they can treat stop signs as yield signs. The unfortunate fact is, there are many riders who think they own the road and can do whatever they want.

CHAFE 150 gets ready to ride
Registration for the 15th annual CHAFE 150 Gran Fondo bicycle, which features five ride options, opens at midnight on Wednesday at CHAFE150.org. As an extra incentive for early birds, cyclists who sign up before Feb. 18 will save $10 on their registration. Registration for the Family Fun Ride will be announced later. The CHAFE 150 is presented by the Sandpoint Rotary Club and sponsored by over 100 other local businesses and organizations. The ride has been touted as one of the nation’s top charity bike rides by Bicycling Magazine, a top-10 scenic ride, and one of the best-supported rides in the country.
